Cartier’s SIHH Launch – Ballon Bleu de Cartier

February 9th, 2011

In this 2011 SIHH, one of the most popular trends is the thin design of watches. Many famous watch brands have created various thin watches to mark its high watch-manufacturing technique in the event of SIHH. For Cartier, one must keep an eye on its extra-flat creation, the Ballon Bleu de Cartier.

The Ballon Bleu de Cartier is a distinctive timepiece with Cartier’s signature design elements and a powerful presence for the owner with the big 46mm scale.

As you can see from the picture, this Ballon Bleu de Cartier exists not only in one single version, but in three different versions, namely, the pink gold, platinum and the white gold. All are designed in a 46mm case with sapphire crystal covering the face. The crown is set with a blue sapphire cabochon. And all three versions are water resistant to 30 meters. Despite these common traits, they differ in some details.

As their names suggests, these three versions differ in the case material. The pink gold one is made of 18 carat pink gold; the white gold one is made of 18 carat white gold; and the platinum one is made of 950/1000 platinum. Besides, as you can see in the picture, the gold version features a silver guilloche dial while the platinum version showcases a deep blue dial. The hands in the pink gold and white gold versions are sword-shaped in blued steel while those in the platinum version are in rhodium-plated steel. Due to the different application of materials, the three versions are priced differently, with the pink gold at $20,300, the platinum at $32,550 and the white gold at $21,800.

I am not sure which version appeals to you most, but I am sure that the watch company, Cartier, has put into a lot of thought in this Ballon Bleu de Cartier. Enjoy the watches.
