Cartier Tortue XL Watch – A Symbol of Brave

March 14th, 2011

While most watches tend to present a sporty or an elegant look, the new creation from the century old watch company Cartier gives a real surprise to its watch fans. The new model is named Cartier Tortue XL watch. It is a watch with distinctive Jaguar décor and a watch that symbolizes courage and the brave. Let’s take a look.

Generally, the watch displays a completely different look from the ordinary ones. It is crafted in the shape of a Jaguar through the applications of relief engraving and champlevé enamel.

The case with a shining golden look is sculptured in 18K yellow gold in barrel shape. It demonstrates a kind of magnificent masculinity with the asymmetric patterns. At three o’clock of the case, an octagonal winding crown is displaying its glamour with a blue sapphire on it.

The dial, which is also the face of a jaguar, displays a high-relief engraving which assembles four pieces and is adjusted with supreme precision. It leaves an impression of fur and piercing yellow eyes which were achieved through delicate craftsmanship. The craftsman has to handpick them with a slim point-graver and chiselled the sides of the whiskers to accentuate the volume of the whiskers. In order to give a magnificent look, the whole engraving and assembly work required more than 60 hours and for the finishing of champleve grand feu enamelling, 25 hours are required. The watch dial depicts seven color tones, to be exactly, the grey, the black, the opal-white, the mauve, the opaque white, and the brown-yellows and green-yellows.

Inside the Cartier Tortue XL watch is the Calibre 9601 MC, an in-house mechanical manual winding movement. The timepiece is able to resist water to 30 meters.

Completing the brave look of this Cartier Tortue XL watch is a semi-matt black alligator leather strap teamed with a folding clasp. There are only 80 pieces in the world.
