A New Chapter in the Breitling Montbrillant Chronograph History – Montbrillant 01 Limited

February 11th, 2011

As a century-old watch making company, Breitling is breaking ground again and again with its magnificent watch manufacturing technique and innovative spirit. Now, it is writing a new chapter in the Montbrillant chronograph history with its Montbrillant 01 Limited, the first Montbrillant chronograph that is equipped with Caliber 01.

The Caliber 01 movement a self-winding movement with high frequency and over 70 hours power reserve ability that is chronometer-certified by the COSC. It is developed and produced in Breitling’s workshops in La Chaux-de-Fonds which also was the birthplace of the first self-winding chronograph for the company in 1969 and the first onboard chronographs.

The Breitling Montbrillant 01 Limited is launched in twin editions in steel and 18K red gold. Each version is issued with limited pieces, with the former in 2000 pieces and the latter in 200 pieces.

The Montbrillant 01 Limited features a Mercury Silver dial and a stylized B – the brand’s current symbol. The chronograph functions of ¼ second, 30 minutes and 12 hours are displayed at nine o’clock, three o’clock and six o’clock correspondingly while the date aperture is situated between 4 o’clock and 5 o’clock. Being housed in the 40mm case, the bezel is the famous bidirectional rotating slide rule bezel developed specially for the pilots. Both the watch face and caseback are made of cambered sapphire crystal with anti-glare coating on both sides, which ensures a clear view of the Caliber 01 movement in the back as well as the column wheel and its original structure. Going with Barenia leather/ crocodile leather strap, they look magnificent, right?

The retail price in USA would be $7415 for the steel version on leather strap, and we are still about find out the price for the 18K gold version. But when one guess it from the price of the steel version, that for the 18K gold one won’t be low. Do you think so? However, I think the Montbrillant 01 Limited, with its significant meaning and exquisite craftsmanship, is worthy of its high price.
