De Grisogono Meccanico dG Watch
At first glance, the new de Grisogono watch seems to have a two-section display. On the upper part of the dial, the watch features an analogue display while its lower part boasts a digital mechanical display. This distinctive dial design helps to win a second glance to the watch. On a closer look, one would easily notice its complicated yet exquisite cams, gear trains and micro-segments.

The analogue display at the upper part captures time with the white hours and minutes hands in leaf shape. It only displays the upper part of hours markers from nine o’clock to three o’clock in matching white. The white color is pretty eye-catching in a general black background.

The mechanical digital display at the lower part of the dial shows time with white mobile micro-segments in which are driven by 23 cams. One could see below the micro-segments the gears and the triggering mechanism which reveals a mechanical beauty for the watch.

The dial is well protected by a sapphire crystal face. The rectangular case is made of matt black titanium with refined lines which creates quite an impressive look. It is able to resist water to 30 meters.

Bringing life to all those functions of the new de Grisogono watch is a hand-wound movement adorned by 111 rubies. The movement, which could be seen through the sapphire crystal caseback, is composed of 651 units and could reserve power to 36 hours.

Finishing the beauty of the new de Grisogono Meccanico dG Watch is a classic matt black alligator leather strap with a folding buckle.

Bucherer further presented two more members from the Patravi family, the voTec PowerReserve and EvoTec BigDate. All these three models are crafted in cushion-shaped cases. This time, at Baselworld 2011, different from the previous models, the Patravi EvoTec Calendar turns out to be a round beauty with a 42.6mm round case.

The new Patravi EvoTec Calendar has its case being made of stainless steel or the 18K rose gold and with a black or silver dial. Three hands are showcased in the new model with the hour and minute hands being hollowed out to create the skeleton beauty. Its hour markers are crafted in chunky I shape while its minute indexes are striped into pieces of small strips. There is a disk with a pointer located above 6 o’clock to indicate the small seconds while a date aperture is showcased at 9 o’clock. At 11 o’clock a big date is displayed which is the mark of every Patravi model.

Baselworld 2011 Preview – Pierre Deroche GrandCliff Milady Royal Retro

February 23rd, 2011

Pierre Deroche has previewed its GrandCliff Milady Royal Retro ahead of the Baselworld 2011. It is an intricate and gorgeous masterpiece for the elegant ladies.

Measured at 42.5mm, the case is made of 316L steel and has 64 diamonds (1.28 cts) setting on it. The bezel is also set with jewels, which make the timepiece look gorgeous. Different from the common three hands dial, the GrandCliff Milady Royal Retro features two arrow-shaped hands, pointing to the hour and the minute respectively. Besides those two hands, there are six retrograde seconds hand with red ends and white bodies indicating the passing of seconds. Those hands, when moving, creates a fascinating mechanical ballet and makes every minute look like an eternal moment. The hour markers are subtly showed by the even number and no minute index is showed in the dial.

Through the anti-reflective sapphire crystal watch face, the intricate dial is seen clearly, so is the movement through the sapphire case back. The movement is the unique automatic Dubois Depraz caliber, which is set with 58 jewels as decorations to add a sense of preciousness to the watch. There are one 12-pivot central bridge and six chamfered and diamond-set seconds bridges. Those elegantly-shaped bridges, which could be seen from the front, are adorned with beautiful motifs giving the watch a floral touch.

The functions of the watch include the hours, minutes, retrograde seconds in 6 ten-second sectors, and the date. The date aperture is showed at 6 o’clock, subtly replacing the 6 o’clock hour index. The crown is a screw-down one and the pushpieces double-sealed so that the watch could resist water to 100m.

Rounding off the elegancy of the piece is the white alligator strap with red stitches and a folding clasp.

To sum up, this is a watch that a woman will like, love and fascinate about.

Ulysse Nardin Freak Diavolo – A Watch of Extraordinary Design

February 23rd, 2011

Known for its magnificent watch technique and innovative spirit, Ulysse Nardin, the Swiss watch company, once again proves its ingenuity by creating the Freak Diavolo, an advanced development of the pioneering 2011 Freak.

The Freak Diavolo is a masterpiece that showcases matchless advancements in three aspects: material design and technology. Let me break it down to you.

The Application of silicium in escapement wheel

When I say the matchless advancement in material of the watch, I did not mean the material of the case which is made of 18-karat white gold. Yes, the case material is high-graded too, but what’s groundbreaking is the application of silicium in escapement wheel. As a revolutionary material at the time, Silicium is used in the hairspring and throughout the escapement. It transforms the course of haute horology and is inspiring.

Ultramodern and unconventional design

The Freak Diavolo is featuring a tourbillon carrousel design. There is no true dial, no crown or no true hands being showcased by the watch. The dial is featuring red “horns” and black cloak-looking backdrop. It’s really unconventional and ultramodern.

Advanced technology

Freak Diavolo witnesses Ulysee Nardin’s advanced watch making technology. For example, the photolithography, the cutting-edge technology, is applied in the Freak Diavolo. Besides, the Freak family also welcomes new development brought by Freak Diavolo, like the flying tourbillon, the ball-bearing system and the balance-wheel concept. Combined, they give the Ulysee Nardin Freak Diavolo a pioneering touch in terms of watch technique.

Besides the three highlights, the Freak Diavolo showcases wonderful watch functions and beautiful watch appearance. It could be wound simply by turning the lower bezel while turning the upper one could adjust time. What’s more, its power reserve ability is more than 8 days and it resists water wonderfully. Coming with one 18k white gold case, the watch features clean lines and robust black color. The elegant black crocodile strap finishes off its aesthetic beauty.

This masterpiece is to be presented at Baselworld 2011.
